Rep. Ilhan Omar is a singular voice in American politics, advocating unfailingly for a thriving future for all people. Ilhan and her family fled a civil war in Somalia when she was young. She has a personal understanding of the impact of war on families and on children. In the aftermath of October 7, Ilhan has met with family members of Israeli-Americans held hostage in Gaza, and has urgently called for their safe release and for an immediate ceasefire. At the same time, Ilhan continues to advocate for the rights of Gazans by speaking out against additional U.S. military aid to Israel and for stronger pressure from the Biden administration towards a lasting ceasefire.
